Grow your own vegetables from kitchen scraps

While cooking with fresh ingredients, usually some leftovers are thrown away. Shells or roots often are not edible and therefore won’t get reused, but now you can grow your own vegetables with theses leavings.

First of all you need to cook – leaving the bottom third of an onion with some of the roots will eventually provide you with fresh onions in a few weeks time. Or do you have some cloves of garlic left over? Put them in soil and you’ll get fresh ones – no joke, this actually works for me. Be warned your own fresh garlic is a lot stronger than what you buy.

Growing your own vegetables don’t stop there, although for the next ones you need to plant by collecting leftovers and planting in soil. A branch of basil for instance needs about two weeks time in a jar with water to form new roots. After this you may put them in soil and get fresh herbs.
