World War I Museum marks 100 years since US entered war

The National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, commemorated the 100 years since the United States entered World War I. The United States declared war on Germany and entered World War I in 1917. To mark the day, military bands played, singers sang patriotic songs, and military aircraft put on a show.

One hundred sixteen Americans died in the war, more than in the Vietnam and Korean Wars combined. The war actually began before America decided to join, in July 1914. In total, 16 million people were killed.
