An innovative app is cutting down restaurant food waste

A smartphone app that saves food waste, gets hungry people a cheap meal, and helps restaurants make more money. It’s a business model that please everyone.

Thomas Bjorn Momsen, COO, currently connects businesses in Berlin with hungry residents.

“I was in a buffet restaurant and I saw all the food that was left in the evening, and I asked the waiter ‘What do you do with all this great food?’ and I found out it’s just thrown away. And I then started researching and found out that this is a big problem in many stores and it feels really bad in my heart to know these good resources go to waste when many countries they don’t even have food,” he said.

Too Good to Go connects people looking for cheap meals with restaurants that have leftover food. This food would otherwise go to waste. The app handles transactions for end of day food purchases.

The owners of Too Good To Go plan to introduce the app to America and other places around the world.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the U.N., 1.3 billion tons of food is lost or wasted around the world every year.
