Relax at Woljeongsa Temple in Gangwon Province

If you plan on coming to Pyeongchang for the Olympics and Paralympics, why not arrive earlier or stay later a few days to experience the Buddhist culture with their temple stay programs? Unique to the region, this one of a kind experience will surely make you feel more relaxed and energized from your usual busy life. At the same time, you can also learn more about Korean Buddhist culture in a quiet and natural environment. This temple is called Woljeongsa, which is located in Gangwon Province.

If you do participate in the temple stay, you’ll be able to participate in the many events and activities that are offered there such as walks through the forests, reflective meditation or even what we are doing here, learning temple etiquette and how to bow, as well as 108 prostrations also known as string prayer beads, well 108 of them to be exact.

Performing 108 prostrations is yet another path towards the realization of the true self and a very effective form of meditation in motion. But I’m sure that by the end you’ll also feel different yet rewarded.

Here at Woljeongsa Temple, the 7th-century Buddhist complex also houses nine-story octagonal pagoda, also called the sari pagoda, the bronze bell of Sangwonsa and large Buddha figures. Although many buildings in the temple were burned down during the Korean War, many of them have been restored so you can experience and see for yourself the Buddhist culture that was lost throughout history.
