Arizona Dad Guns Down Son, Daughter and Wife in Triple-Murder Suicide

By Ivan Pentchoukov

An Arizona family was killed in an apparent murder-suicide on Friday, Nov. 10, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

Jason Fairbanks, 39, shot and killed his wife Annie Fairbanks, 39, his 3-year-old daughter and his 9-month-old son, Arizona Central reported. He then turned the gun on himself, police said.

A co-worker became concerned after Jason Fairbanks failed to show up for work and went to the family’s house in a quiet upper-middle-class neighborhood to check up on him. The person discovered the horrific scene upon arrival.

Police responded to the call just past 1:30 a.m. on Saturday and arrived at the stucco house near 100th Street and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, Arizona’s Family reported. The initial investigation suggests that the family’s declining finances may have contributed to the grim crime.

Jason and Annie owned a physical therapy clinic in Old Town Scottsdale. Annie was a doctor of holistic nutrition and “completed courses in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, Advanced Metabolic Typing, and was a licensed nutritionist,” according to a local event listing.

The suspected killer’s sister, Laura Fairbanks, said that Annie Fairbanks was always smiling.

“When you were around her, she just made you feel all right,” she said. “It was just her presence.”

The couple moved in together and married a year and a half later.

“Boy, she loved those kids,” Laura said. “She loved them so much.”

Laura Fairbanks spoke of her brother as a protector, recalling how he flew in from his college to calmly confront a boy at her school who was causing her problems.

“He loved his family so much,” Laura Fairbanks said. “He wasn’t a bad person.”

Laura Fairbanks said that Jason Fairbanks worked seven days a week to provide for his family, but she knew that the business was not bringing in enough.

“I just wished he had asked for help,” she said. “Jason could make people laugh in ways you never thought you could. He was an extraordinary big brother.”

Photos of the family on social media do not hint at any sign of trouble. Homemade art could be seen through the windows of their house.

“My neighbor said there was a multiple murder next door to my house,” one woman told Arizona’s Family. “[They were a] really nice couple who just had a baby.”
