A vlogger who records food from around the world caught up with a man that blows hot sugar into animals.
According to Atlas Obscura, the art of sugar blowing is on a decline in China. Blowers inflate molten sugar and then shape it into animals, usually one of the 12 from the Chinese zodiac.
In this case, the artist steps outside the traditional zodiac animals by also blowing an elephant. The pig falls within the 12 zodiac animals.
Atlas Obscura says that the animals are considered art even though they are edible.
China also has a sugar painting tradition. Artists use hot sugar to paint auspicious animals. According to Oddity Central, it is an extremely ancient tradition that extends back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD).
