Virginia ‘Violin Kid’ Plays Treasured Instrument Made in 1700’s

By Zack Stieber

Matthew Robinson rarely goes anywhere without his treasured violin.

The 17-year-old has a violin that was made hundreds of years ago.

The instrument was crafted in Germany in 1796.

“Sometime when I don’t have it with me I feel off,” Robertson told WTVR. “I feel like I’m missing something almost. It is just part of me.”

Robertson’s father said his son developed a knack for playing when he was young.

“He picked it up very quickly. He could read music before he could read [books],” said Cliff.

Robertson started playing when he was 5 years old and has never stopped.

He practices for three hours a day.
