Couple with Down’s Syndrome celebrates their 22 years long wedding journey, proving their doubters wrong!

After dating for 18 months, this beautiful couple decided to take their vows. They have completed 22 years of blissfully happy married life together, proving once again, that the power of love knows no boundaries.

Maryanne and Tommy Pilling, both from the UK, are considered to be the first couple with Down Syndrome to have married. They received a lot of flak from the society back then in 1995, and were criticized for such a decision. But now, in 2017, the couple is celebrating 22 years of happy married life together.

They seem like a perfect couple, sharing the same smiles on their beautiful faces, with their eyes lit with happiness, and love and admiration for each other. It is hard to anticipate the kind of understanding and compassion the two must have shared over the years, both going through similar pains of being a little different from the rest of society.

They truly must have shared a deep bond and caring, unknown to the rest of the world, who were skeptical when they first decided to be bound in holy matrimony.

The couple now have a fan following of thousands on their Facebook page that is managed by Maryanne’s sister, Lindi.

Maryanne is now 45, and Tommy is 59

“My wedding was the best day of my life,” Ms. Pilling said. “I was shocked when Tommy proposed but I didn’t have to think twice about saying yes.”

“Tommy and I never argue. I love my husband very much. He is my best friend,” Maryanne said.

The world who was full of criticism had now come to look upon the couple as proof that those with Down Syndrome can live long, happy lives with people they love.

About the day when they first met, in 1995, her mother Linda said, “The day Maryanne met Tommy she came home with the biggest smile on her face. She couldn’t stop talking about him and asked if he could come for dinner.”

There on, they continued dating for 18 months before he proposed.

Maryanne’s mother Linda did not hesitate in the least to agree when Tommy asked her if he could propose to her daughter. He had only a toy ring from a vending machine to give her.

The mother then proceeded with him immediately to a shop to buy a real engagement ring.

For their 20th anniversary in 2015, Maryanne and Tommy renewed their vows

“People worried about their own children or grandchildren with Down’s Syndrome get hope from Maryanne and Tommy’s story,” Lindi said. “‘Hope that their children can also fall in love and live happily ever after.”
Once again, this couple has proved that love is the most beautiful and precious thing in the world! And all living beings are entitled to love and be loved.
