When kids get to a certain age, it’s time to stop pampering them and start teaching a little responsibility—that is a leap all kids have to make, and a challenge of parenting. With all the distractions of modern technology, gadgets and devices, this smart mom was one step ahead of her youngsters when she devised a plan that got them off their butts in no time!
With 101 excuses and promises to do it “later,” a time that never comes, parents are driven to think of ingenious ways to get their youngsters out of their comfort zones to help around the house.
How does one get one’s child to realize life is not only about play—that the lawn does not rake itself, and neither does the house clean itself?
For one mother, she came up with the most ingenious way to help her kids decide for themselves that the cleaning should be done sooner rather than “later.”
For this mom, she hoped to come home to a clean kitchen, and so she took her parenting controls in hand in the most inventive way and set a few stipulations. Kids love their mobile devices these days and can’t live without the internet (bless their hearts), and fortunately for parents, that’s one thing they can taketh away at the push of a button.
So, mom posted a note to explain the new rule of the house, which would entail certain consequences should it be neglected. The note read:
Today’s WiFi password can be unlocked by texting a photo of a clean kitchen to mom. Sent photograph MUST contain one box of crackers on the counter by the stove (to prevent re-using any previous photos).
Thank you for playing. May the odds be ever in your favor.
With all the changes of the times, parents need to be on top of their game. With technology keeping kids couch-ridden, they have to find ways to spend all that pent-up energy, and they just need a little encouragement from mom and dad—as kids don’t know any better after all. She realized technology was the key to their hearts. How clever!
Not to mention how she saw ten steps ahead and closed the loophole with the crackers on the counter stipulation!
This mom’s online post was met with comments about similar experiences, and her method of motivation is being passed on via social media, with her note garnering nearly 250,000 views on imgur.
What’s great is that this mom’s idea is versatile. It can be used not only for cleaning the kitchen, but also for just about any chore, doing homework, and it works even on weekends! (She’ll need a list of passwords handy).
Is she likely to see an improvement? We’re betting yes!
