It’s not easy to overcome your fears, especially if you have held onto such fears all your life. This young girl however, is truly an inspiration, for she overcame her fear of dogs to save a dog in need.
It took one incident at school to change all that for Annie Valkyrie. The 16-year-old encountered a group of kids in the schoolyard throwing stones at a poor dog, whom she later named Alfeiya.
“She was in my school yard when I first saw her. A group of kids were throwing stones at her and when I saw this little pooch all covered in blood, I knew I had to take action,” said Annie.
She decided then and there to rescue the poor stray. Annie pleaded with her Mom and grandparents to help, but they said, “we can’t do anything about it.”
“I called my father, who I don’t usually talk to, and he said he’d be able to come in two hours. I sat next to her in the cold for over two hours waiting for my father to come. When he did, he handed me a blanket and told me to catch her and bring her to the vet on foot because he wouldn’t let her in his car.”
“I chased her around for about 5 minutes and we managed to corner her and wrap her in the blanket. A friend of mine helped me carry her to the vet while my dad drove and waited for us there.”
“The next day my mom came to see her and I managed to convince her to keep her with the help of the vets.” Even when reality set in, and Annie had to find the money for the puppy’s vet bills, she remained steadfast in her desire to help Alfeiya.
“Her treatment was very expensive, we had to borrow money to be able to get her medicine. We’re not very rich, I live in a small apartment with my mom and grandparents, and a cat.”
Then the time to take her home finally arrived.
“I gave her a bath, we were both very scared, she of the water and I of her biting me,” recalled the teen.
Annie shared her story on Imgur, with the hopes that her experience will inspire others to look out for, and help one another more.
“I’ve always been scared of dogs. But I couldn’t leave a creature to suffer when I could help. I hope this story gives you hope and inspiration to be a better person and help with anything you can!”
And as for Alfeiya, well she is happy to be with her new owner and have a happy hereafter.
“After I dried her fur she got her claim on my bed, I’ve always been scared of dogs. But I couldn’t leave a creature to suffer when I could help,” said Annie.
