It was a car crash that left Sujatha Burla paralysed from shoulders down but she rose above her disabilities with true grit and determination! Her story has inspired many so far and continues to do so.
Hailing from Hyderabad, 21-year-old Sujata was returning from Shirdi when a car accident led to serious injuries on her spinal cord. After four months of treatment and physiotherapy, the doctors declared that she would never be able to walk again. That was a tough time for the family, her father too passed away a few years later. When Sujata was still coping with the loss of her legs, she had a bigger cause to mourn over.
Her relatives and friends had turned their backs on her, she recalls in an interview with Rediff. She was never the kind to depend on someone, so she decided to do something that would make her financially independent. Joining her sister’s fashion line was a stepping stone for her in the world of business. She soon started her own textile workshop but her physical disability didn’t let her manage it properly.
She discontinued her textile business and started trading on the stock market on her friends’ advice. It was difficult for her to type on the keyboard but she overcame that soon. Sujata is a professional trader now and has a monthly turnover of around 3 crores. She made headlines in 2007 by making 6 lakhs in one day!
She also has an organization called ‘Shraddha’ which is aimed at children with spinal cord related diseases. Sujata is also planning to open a stock market training centre. She was invited by NASA recently to motivate the scientists. A true woman of power, Sujata is an example of what a strong will can do.
