San Luis Obispo Mayor Heidi Harmon was full of praise for Shen Yun Performing Arts after seeing the New York-based company’s performance in her city on April 11. Ms. Harmon said she was deeply impressed by Shen Yun’s quality and spiritual message.
“The whole thing is really great. Just the commitment to the quality of it…you can just feel the level of effort and practice and time that’s been put into it,” she said.
“I’ve really never seen anything like it. I was so impressed,” she said.
Shen Yun has taken it as its mission to revive China’s divinely-inspired culture. According to Shen Yun’s websites, in a Shen Yun performance, “mortals and divine beings merge on stage as one. Principles such as benevolence and justice, propriety and wisdom, respect for the heavens, and divine retribution, all come to life, washing over the audience.”
Commenting on the spiritual aspects of the performance, Ms. Harmon said, “regardless of your religious belief or spiritual beliefs, I believe that too, that we all have an essentially good and meaningful quality to us.”
Ms. Harmon was also amazed by Shen Yun’s colorful costumes, which are all handmade.
“I could talk for an hour. It’s all amazing. As you can see, I love costumes, so I loved all the costumes on stage, and just the commitment to the high quality of the costumes and the perfection of the moves,” she said.
“I didn’t see one person making one mistake the whole time. So you can see the commitment to the message and the commitment to the dance, and the commitment to the music, and the commitment to the costumes and the whole presentation. It’s just unbelievably impressive.”
