Carrie Underwood released a tear-filled video performance of her new song “Cry Pretty” on May 6—her first video appearance since seriously gashing her face in November.
The video tells of an overwhelmed singer trying to bear up under pressure, who finally makes a triumphant return to stardom, People reports.
The video echoes Underwood’s actual situation in some ways.
The 35-year-old singing star was walking her dogs one night in November 2017, when she fell, breaking her wrist and opening a gash in her face that took 40 stitches to close.
Underwood came back from facial surgery to perform “Cry Pretty” publicly for the first time at the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, on April 11.
She aired the video on a reunion of “American Idol” the TV show, which first put her in the public eye when she appeared in its 2005 season.
