Young lady buys meal for exhausted traffic officer, who tears up over her kindness

From putting oneself in another’s shoes to acting upon that kind and understanding thought, we each can make a positive difference—even a tiny, yet significant one—to another person’s day, or even life!

It was a scorching hot day outside when Lilibeth Gallo, who was sitting inside an air-conditioned restaurant, spotted a traffic officer, who looked to be in his 50s or 60s, working outside.

The man must have been exhausted, because he had to take a break by sitting on the edge of the gutter.

Upon seeing this, “I couldn’t avoid shedding tears,” Gallo, a freelance model in Quezon City, the Philippines, wrote of her experience in Filipino on Facebook.

She assumed he was most likely thirsty, and wondered if he had even eaten breakfast at all.

Soon enough, the traffic officer walked into the very restaurant Gallo was in. Concerned for the man’s well-being, Gallo thought the least she could do was buy him a meal.

At the drop of a hat, Gallo jumped up to order the man a meal and a drink.

“This is for you,” Gallo told the man, placing his meal before him. “Have some breakfast.”

“But I didn’t order anything,” he responded. “I don’t have any money.”

“It’s okay. I bought it for you,” Gallo said, adding that she hopes he enjoys the meal.

Before Gallo returned to her seat to finish off her own meal, she noticed the officer was quite touched. He gave her a hearty smile and his eyes filled with tears.

He then proceeded to dig into the meal he was treated to. It seems he was quite hungry.

When it was time for Gallo to leave the restaurant, the very grateful man smiled and waved goodbye to her.

She shared on Facebook that he could have been her own father. She of course would not want her father, or any other person that age, to go hungry, especially when on the job like that, out in the harsh elements.

Gallo adds that it’s sometimes the simplest things we take for granted, like the much-needed meal the exhausted officer was treated to.

No doubt that feeling of gratefulness will stay with him. Should he have told his family what happened to him that day, they too would be most grateful for the young woman’s generosity.

The sympathy and respect she showed him was genuine kindness, and the incident was justly lauded by social media users.
