Hero puppy ‘healing’ after being bitten by rattlesnake in bold sacrifice to save owner

When a golden retriever puppy jumped in front of his owner to prevent her from being bitten by a rattlesnake, he took the hit himself.

Paula Godwin was out walking early on June 28 in Arizona with her two golden retrievers, Todd and Copper, when suddenly, without warning, Todd launched himself in front of her.

“It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a rattlesnake,” Paula wrote on Facebook.

When she looked down to see why Todd was acting that way, she saw the rattlesnake, but unfortunately, it had already bitten him.

“But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me. He jumped right in front of my leg where I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like,” she said.

Godwin quickly picked him up and ran all the way to her car, and took off for the animal hospital.

She arrived there within 10 minutes, and staff were able to save his life.

Photos of Todd’s heroic act were shared on social media many times.

Comments such as, “Hope your puppy gets better soon,” “You’re so brave, Todd!” and “What an angel you are, Todd!” were shared.

You never know when life may throw you a curve ball. Thank goodness there are furry companions like Todd that are here to protect us.
