This young entrepreneur took over his father’s modest plastic-recycling business, and has earned $21,000 so far. Not too shabby for a second-grader!
Young Ryan Hickman from Orange County, California, was just 3-years-old when he started tagging along with his dad, to sort out plastic bottles and cans. After bagging the collection, they made the trip to the recycling center together.
Ryan enjoyed the work so much that he has now become utterly obsessed with recycling.
Talking to his parents, Ryan outlined an ambitious plan to collect recyclables from the neighbors, the neighbors’ friends and families, and their coworkers too. He would hand all of them plastic bags, and ask them to save their bottles and cans for later pickup.
In so doing, sweet little Ryan was not just building up the business, but also contributing to the environment by recycling bottles and cans, reducing landfill waste, and protecting our precious mother earth.
Ryan’s idea caught on and soon gained momentum. He then started his own business called: Ryan’s Recycling.
Each and every day, for the past four years, he has been sorting out the cans, and different types of plastic bottles collected from families from all over Orange County.
Now 7, Ryan has recycled over 200,000 bottles and cans to date, and has earned a tidy sum of about $21,000.
On his website, he explains that his parents have encouraged him to save his earnings for his future college education. But if you ask Ryan his opinion, he would tell you that he’d rather use the capital to purchase of a full-size trash truck and build his assets!
Most certainly, many kids out there would be impressed and inspired by hearing about this little businessman’s success story.
So, make way guys… There is a new kid on the block, and he’s got real big plans!
