700-pound woman addicted to food loses 200 pounds—so she can have a baby

Trimming down 200 pounds seemed quite the challenge for this morbidly obese woman, who once wished to become too fat to move. For her child’s sake, however, she’s more than willing to make the sacrifice, something she would never have imagined before.

This 700-pound (approximately 318 kg) woman once wished to be the fattest woman in the world. She wished she could be so fat so as to be immobile and be fed for the rest of her life. She ate over 10,000 calories a day and admitted she was addicted to food.

Something changed her, however.

She wanted to have a baby. After suffering two miscarriages, she realized that her obese state was not suitable for having a child. She soon became determined to lose weight and is now adhering to a healthy diet for her unborn baby.

“At one point in my life, I wanted to be the biggest woman in the world. I wanted to be bedbound and immobile and be fed ever more,” said Monica Riley, 28, from Fort Worth, Texas.

She used to eat non-stop every day. In a typical day, she would consume 10,000 calories, including six scones, six hot dogs, a big bowl of sugary cereal, two weight gain shakes, four McChicken burgers, four double cheeseburgers, a large pack of french fries, 30 chicken nuggets, macaroni cheese, Taco Bell and a gallon of ice cream.

She was devastated, however when she had the second miscarriage. She blamed herself for the miscarriages, especially after finding out that she had developed type 2 diabetes because of her obesity.

“I was depressed and crying a lot. I picked myself up and just kept going. I just had to put it behind me and I pretty much pretended that it never happened.”

“I do think my weight affected the previous pregnancies. There is no clear medical evidence but I think if I was healthier the babies would have been stronger. I accept that my eating habits were terrible…But now that I am pregnant, it’s been a wake-up call,” she said.

“I don’t want to lose any more babies and I didn’t realize how dangerous it was to be pregnant at this size before. I want to be healthy enough for the baby to keep growing.”

Change was the only solution for her.

“I am changing the way I eat, I’m exercising, and taking care of my body. I’m trying to get proper sleep every night and walking every day and I feel different already.”

“I am still very heavy. So walking is still hard but I am getting energy back now.”

The new lifestyle is not easy for her, however.

“The diet has been very difficult,” she said.

“There has been a lot of crying and a lot of mental challenges. Food for me was an addiction pretty much, just like alcohol or drugs.”

Now, at 15 weeks pregnant, she is prepared to do anything for her third attempt at having a child.

“I want to be able to be active with my child. I want to be able to get up and with him or her and be involved in every way. You can’t do that if you’re immobile,” she said.

Under her unshakable determination to be a caring mom for her baby, Monica lost 201 pounds (91 kg) in just ten weeks, taking her down to 499 pounds (226 kg).

“I don’t have a goal weight in mind,” she said. “It’s more about health than size. The pregnancy is progressing well and the baby has a strong heartbeat.”

“We are going to encourage the baby to eat well as he or she grows up,” She continued. “I don’t want my child to think that being fat is wrong, I just want them to be active, healthy and happy.”

She said she just wants to have a healthy baby and family. And hopefully, they can have more children in the future.

“I just want to give him or her the best life I can, and that’s all that matters.”
