A hunger warrior! This vegetable seller donates 10 kg vegetables everyday to feed the needy!

Hunger is the most powerful driving force in the world. We do all that we can to satiate our hunger. It is also an issue plaguing us globally. With rampant poverty, a hunger-free world might seem like a distant dream, but there are people who are working tirelessly to make that dream come true!

K.Y. Nazeer is a wholesale vegetable vendor in Ernakulam, Kerala. Every morning he sets up his shop like everyone else but he habitually sets aside a portion of the day’s fare. Each day without fail, this ‘ordinary’ man donates that portion for free to feed the hungry.

For the past four years, he has been supplying vegetables for free to Foundation of Annam Charity Ease (FACE). It is a Kochi based charity that provides meals to hundreds of poverty-stricken people who arrive at their doorstep daily.

Nazeer had come across many such people in his life but he wasn’t in the position to help them as he himself had to struggle for food.

His desire to help them didn’t die out. In 2014, he saw a long queue of people waiting outside FACE’s office in the burning heat. He spoke to them asking what help could he provide. Since he was a vegetable vendor, they asked whether he could supply vegetables. Nazeer agreed instantaneously.

‘It was like some force within pulling me towards these people. The long queue of people waiting in the scorching heat literally moved my mind. There was some sort of heaviness in my mind until I agreed to supply vegetables,’ he said in a Times of India report. ‘Every time I give something to the poor I feel some sort of satisfaction and solace in my mind. In my opinion, if people devote a bit of their time to feed the hungry, a hunger-free world will become a reality,’ he added further.

FACE feeds around 300 people every day and Nazeer donates around 10 kg vegetables for free each day.

Compassion is something that we as human beings inherit but most of us don’t act on it. We often consider ourselves too powerless to solve problems facing humanity, but we forget that little drops of water and little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land!
