Birds have found a place in Gujarat where they can rely on food regardless of circumstances. This man, popularly known as the ‘Birdman’ has dedicated his entire life to feeding more than thousands of birds daily! From being a class 5 dropout to receiving an award as a bird conservator from the former President, Pranab Mukherjee, this man is an inspiration.
Harsukh Bhai who is in his 70s lives in Junagadh district of Gujarat and over thousands of birds visit him daily for food. He spends about 1.5 lakhs every year to feed the birds.
It all began when Harsukh met with an accident and fractured his leg. During his recovery, one of Bhai’s friend got some pearl millet from his farm. Harshukh Bhai hung one of these cobs in his balcony and that is when the most unexpected thing happened in his life. Many parrots started making their way to the cob to eat the grains.
As the numbers increased, Bhai immediately turned his land into a farm where the birds can have enough space to eat comfortably. He got some old pipes, drilled holes in them and made a stand that can hold up to 2,700 pearl millet cobs.
Harsukh and his family actively work on helping the birds by changing the cobs twice a day. It is beautiful to see how he has devoted his life selflessly for these birds. Their daily visits prove the bond they have developed with Harsukh.
