Two former pets in need of love were found dumped by the roadside in winter and left to the elements. Whether they lived or died was not a concern for the person who did the deed. Fortunately, a curious passerby wanted to see what was inside the box, and in this case—curiosity saved the cats.
In December 2013, Imgur user Provinciallife uploaded a few photos of what happened that winter day. “My dad came home after work and told me he found a box with two kittens in it. I didn’t prepare myself for what we found,” the person wrote.
“He told me he found a box with two kittens after getting a complaint in this particular area about the roads being blocked with snow. We returned after work to see if the kittens had been picked up. This is what we saw.”
“When I peaked [sic] in, my heart broke. This kitten is obviously very sick and cold. There’s two dishes of food with a blanket.”
The duo quickly picked the box up and took the cats back home.
They discovered that one cat was “visibly more healthy than his little buddy,” and the cats would “meow continuously” if separated.
“We gave them a bath! They’re extremely skinny. They don’t really seem to know what to do with the tiny bowl of kitten food we put down.”
After the cats were given warm blankets, they noticed the cats were “perking up” and warming up to them. It seemed obvious the cats were grateful for being saved from their former dismal “home” in the snow.
Due to the cold, the two male cats, later named Tango and Cash, were sneezing by the next morning and had to be taken to the vet for an examination. During this checkup, one sick cat was found to have a wound at the end of his tail.
Fortunately for the cats, their rescuers nursed them back to health with the support and donations from strangers who had seen their story on Imgur.
Tango and Cash now no longer need to worry that they will be without warmth in the winter as their rescuers have “put a lot emotionally into them and couldn’t bare [sic] to separate them or give them away.”
The family also has a message to potential cat owners: “If you’re going to get a cat, make sure you do research first. Cats are a furrever friend. They’re not disposable, despite what the person who abandoned these cats might think.”
